THE CASTLE'S STORY
The castle of Strettura in the locality of Palazzaccio was born on the ruins of a "Castrum" camp tower, used by the Romans during the construction of the Flaminia road.
We have now stayed at Castrum twice, and both times for 11 nights. We loved both stays and can only recommend Castrum. Castrum is a magnificent pearl in the Umbria nature. A lovely restored old castle on top of a small mouintain peak. There is a handfull of apartments of different size but all very comfy. There is a nice clean swimming pool for the kids and they love it. The owners and the staff is the most lovely and warm people you can ever imagine. The restaurant served delicious food made with high quality local groceries...

We stayed here for 5 nights! What a wonderful relaxing and well positioned place. You do need a car but lots of places to visit within 30 minutes and Spoleto just 20 minutes away. A very welcoming place and the pool was beautiful. The apartment we had was spotlessly clean. Some nights we had our own locally sourced food and we also ate at the restaurant here. Highly recommended. Superb.

If you flick through the photos you can see this is somewhere special. A lovingly restored castle with an interesting history that finds a wonderful balance between original features and modern comforts, it sits on a hill top with commanding views over the magnificent surroundings that you can enjoy from the delightful swimming pool or the terrace of the restaurant next door. If you read about the area you'll find out that it's in a spectacular corner of the world - in striking distance of rugged mountains, unspoilt medieval villages and Umbrian cities that are drowning in culture. What the photos and blogs can't show you, however, is the special care we received from the owners and staff. It's rare that you get great customer service but their generosity and warmth take them beyond that category into something more special. Our little son was ill for a while during our stay and they moved heaven and earth to accommodate us - thinking of details that wouldn't have even crossed our minds. We truly owe them a debt and we can't wait for another opportunity to return.
